Language can influence the way we think about time, the physical world and our own place in it. This is the basis of neurolinguistic programming. Cognitive scientist Lera Boroditsky suggests it also has implications for the nature-nurture debate.

This recent memo from the CEO of Woot.com is a brilliant example of note-perfect communication: its witty, casual style is exactly right for its audience, yet the memo doesn’t flinch from addressing the potentially sensitive topics that arise when one company is sold to another.
